The living room is in shambles, wrapping paper everywhere, gift boxes piled high. The children and their father are on the floor examining or playing with presents. Still in her robe, Candice is cuddled on one of the easy chairs, warming her hands on a steamy cup of coffee. She smiles as she studies her family through bleary eyes.

Stephanie, also in a robe, descends the stairs to join the gathering. “My, my, you children must have been very good this year.”

“We were, Miss Stephanie,” Katherine beams. “Look at this lovely dollhouse I got. Want to help me decorate it? I'm putting furniture in now.”

“I'd love to, Katherine.”

“Katherine,” Candice interrupts, “let Stephanie have a cup of coffee first, all right?”

“Okay.” She returns to her play.

“I just brewed a fresh pot, Steph. Can you help yourself?”

“Certainly. I'll be right back.”

Stephanie returns and sits in a chair next to Candice. “Where is my brother?” Candice asks. “I know he wouldn't want to miss all this. Brad, will you run down the hall and give him a nudge?”

“Sure thing.”

“How are your parents, Steph?” Candice asks.

“They're having a grand time. Of course, they apologized all over the place about leaving me alone for the holidays, but I reassured them that I was quite happy being treated like one of your family. Thank you again.”

“You are like one of the family, Steph. The children have already taken to you.”

“Yes. And now I am ‘Miss Stephanie’ to Katherine.”

“I noticed. I think it's sweet.”

Brad returns. “He's not in his room.”

“No? In the bathroom?” Candice asks.

“No, the door's open.” Brad walks to the front window. “His car is still here.”

“Where can he be?” Candice queries.

“Maybe my office. I'll find him.”

“This is very strange,” Candice says.

“Mommy?” Johnathan squeals, “I found another present with my name on it. Can I open it?”

“Of course, dear.”

Brad appears in the doorway to the kitchen. “I found him. He's in the backyard.”

“He's outside?” Candice exclaims. “What on earth for?”

“Well,” Brad beckons the ladies with a wave. “I think you two should come see this.”

Joining Brad in the kitchen, they follow his gaze out the patio doors. The sun is bright on the newly fallen snow. Robert appears to be adding the final touches to a snow sculpture.

“What?” Candice asks. “Is he building a snowman?”

“More than that,” Brad says. “Look closely. I believe he has sculpted our family.”

“Oh, my goodness! Yes,” Candice marvels.

“And,” Brad adds, “it looks like he put a baby in your arms.”

“Oh! Yes!”

“Wow!” Stephanie exclaims. “He is gifted. That is beautiful.”

Candice partially opens the patio door. “Robert! What are you doing? It's freezing out there. Come in, please!”

A smiling Robert, wearing his new scarf and cap, hurries to and through the patio door. “You like?”

“How long have you been out there?” Candice asks. “Your cheeks are bright red. You better not have gotten frostbite!”

“I'm fine. The snow is perfect, with just the right amount of moisture. Our snow is almost always too dry to build anything. Do you like it?

“I love it,” Candice replies warmly.
